Somatic-based approaches focus on the physiological impact of trauma. Trauma is not just a psychological story. It's a physical event "stuck" in the nervous system—often as incomplete survival responses. By shifting attention toward internal sensations—like tension, temperature, and breath—you can learn to regulate yourself, moving from states of hyper-arousal or shutdown into a more grounded and resilient state.

In a typical session, the emphasis is on "tracking" the body to identify physical markers of trauma in manageable increments. Rather than re-traumatising a client by recounting a painful narrative, these methods help you build a sense of internal safety and agency. By observing how the body holds distress and gently facilitating its release through movement or awareness, clients can resolve the physical "charge" of the trauma, ultimately allowing the brain and body to recognise that the threat has passed.
